Wat Chalong

Wat Chalong

Though Phuket has a total of 29 Buddhist temples, Wat Chalong is considered to be the most important of them all. It is located in the subdistrict of Chalong and dedicated to two venerated monks, Luang Pho Chaem and Luang Pho Chuang, who aided the Chalong citizens during a rebellion in 1876. Wat Chalong is a visually striking building with a bright red roof, a golden spire, and golden embellishments along the walls. It is filled with numerous statues, and the pagoda is said to hold a fragment of one of the Buddha’s bones. The pagoda also has many paintings depicting the Buddha that are worth taking the time to stop and admire. Don’t miss the exhibition hall either, as it contains life-like wax models of several monks as well as beautiful porcelain and antique Thai furniture.
