Phuket Old Town is an important historical area in the center of Phuket Town, the capital of Phuket. It is one of the best places to visit in Phuket for an authentic experience of the island’s culture. Phuket Old Town was built with the proceeds from the tin mining boom of the 18th century, and it shows. There are several beautiful mansions that once belonged to the tin barons, as well as other buildings constructed in the unique style known as Sino-Portuguese. Many of these buildings now house museums, shops, restaurants, and hotels. The buildings are also brightly painted, which makes for some lovely photographs. Phuket Old Town is highly walkable and an easy place to spend a day exploring and stopping for refreshments at quaint cafes. It’s a great place to shop for souvenirs as well.
